Alkaline Diet
56How to Follow the Alkaline Diet
The Alkaline Diet is all about balancing food that makes your body's pH alkaline with food that makes your pH acid. The ideal pH balance of the human body is slightly alkaline or a little above 7 on a pH scale.
Therefore, to follow an Alkaline diet you need to do two things:
- Know what your pH is. You can do this by measuring the pH level of either your saliva or urine at various points throughout the day. Taking your urinary pH level is more accurate than that of your saliva. There are pros and cons to each - I will leave that up to you to figure out. You take your pH measurement by using litmus paper or pH test strips.
- Know what you are eating. Whatever you put into your body is going to have an overall effect on you pH level. Therefore it is important to know the effect that a food will have on your system. There are many different Acid Alkaline Food Charts available on the web. There is also a chart called the Potential Renal Acid Load (PRAL) that should be used in conjunction with the other chart. A negative PRAL value indicates that a food is alkaline forming (which is good).
The foods that fall under the alkalizing category are mainly leafy greens, vegetables and fruits.
The proportions of foods that you eat should be between 60/40 to 80/20 Alkaline/Acid depending on where your pH is and where it needs to be.
You will also realize that your pH levels will fluctuate throughout the day. Your ultimate goal is to reach a point where your pH level remains 7.5 consistently throughout the day. This will take months to achieve but the rewards are optimal health and energy. You won't believe how good you feel!
The alkaline diet is also known as the pH miracle diet because once people have reached their optimal pH their illnesses have gone away. There are many wonderful stories of people's diabetes going away, cancers going into remission, and people having to stop taking their blood pressure medications because they were getting too low in conjunction with eating well.
The alkaline diet serves as alternative and preventative medicine! Try it for six months and see how you feel!
